May 5, 2021 Headline News, Visit Middle East / Dubai No Comments

With Dubai renowned for being a pretty glitzy and wealthy part of the world, with heaps of very expensive cars and very wealthy people, according to a What’s On report, a Dubai number plate sold recently for a staggering 38 million dirhams, which is around $AUD13.4 million!

The sale makes the number plate the world’s second most expensive, with the purchase of this number plate AA9 bought on Saturday, May 1 at a charity auction named ‘Most Noble Numbers’, which was raising money for the UAE’s ‘100 Million Meals’ Ramadan campaign.

Three other three-digit car number plates also went on sale with U31 fetching Dhs2.6 million, followed closely by E51, which was snapped up for Dh2.45 million, and T38 which sold for a Dubai paltry 1.8 million dirhams, just under $AUD1million, with 550,000 dirhams around $AUD200,000 also donated by two donors prior to the auction.

I am sure you are wondering though who has number 1?

Well, not surprisingly, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has number 1 as pictured, and I have seen this Mercedes a few times and he drives himself around too, causing some headaches for his security detail!

The auction though wasn’t just about number plates either as five exclusive Etisalat mobile numbers also went on sale, the most successful of which – 056 9999999 – sold for 3 million dirhams, around $AUD1.6, number 056 5555556 selling for 260,000, dirhams which is around $AUD92,000, 056 9999993 selling for 150,000 dirhams, which is around $AUD53,000, 054 5555558 selling for 130,000 dirhams, which is around $AUD46,000 and 054 9999993 sold for 100,000. Dirhams which is around $AUD35,000!

The anonymous buyer of the 38 million dirhams, which is around $AUD13.4 million number plate said, “I just want to say a big thank you to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for giving us this chance to be part of this charity programme.”

The ‘100 Million Meals’ Ramadan campaign provides parcels for disadvantaged people across 30 countries during Ramadan, with the ‘Most Noble Numbers’ organized by Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) in partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Etisalat, and Emirates Auction.
